CONSULTATION TO ORGANIZE THE WORLD SOCIAL FORUM (WSF) 2009
WSF 2009 AMAZÔNIA
The International Council of the World Social Forum is consulting all organisations and network and popular movements about the objectives of their actions, campaigns anda social fights towards the next WSF, that will take place in Belém city, state of Pará, in the pan-amazonic region, Brazil, in january, 2009. Your attention to this consultation is very important for the construction of a real collective and democratic meeting.
Since the last edition of the World Social Forum in Nairobi in 2007, we have been builting the space and inclusion of activities following nine goals of action, seeking to enhance the exchange between different themes and diversity of struggles waged by organizations and social movements worldwide.
Through this consultation, we want to ensure a wide participation of the largest possible number of entities and persons in the process of upgrading and/or confirmation of these goals.
Therefore, we call your attention to two important issues on the region where the next Forum will be held: the first is that the Amazon is one of the last areas of the planet still relatively preserved, precious both by the richness of its biodiversity as for its strategic importance for all peoples of the planet, wheter the forest is preserved.
The second is that in it there is a broad and diverse set of social movements, central sindications, associations, cooperatives and civil society organizations who are fighting for a sustainable Amazon, solidary and democratic, articulated in networks and forums, building a movement of resistance on the perspective of another model of development. This set of organisations already is a local committee.
The construction of the WSF 2009, in the Amazon, can not disregard these issues. Therefore, the goals adopted must enable the dialogue between the Pan-Amazon and the world and between the world and the Pan-Amazon.
Having said that, we present below the goals adopted for the organisation of the WSF in Nairobi - 2007:
1. For the construction of a world of peace, justice, ethics and respect for different espiritualities, free of weapons, especially nuclear ones;
2. For the release of the world domain by multinationals, financial capital, the imperialist domination and unequal systems of commerce;
3. For universal and sustainable access to the common property of mankind and nature, for the preservation of our planet and its resources, particularly water and forests;
4. For the democratization of knowledge and information and for the creation of a system of shared knowledge with the dismantling of Intellectual Property Rights;
5. For the dignity, diversity, ensuring the equality of gender and race and elimination of all forms of discrimination and caste (discrimination based on descent);
6. For ensurance (lifetime use of all people) of the economic, social, human, cultural and environmental rights, particularly the rights to food, health, education, housing, employment and decent work;
7. For the construction of a world order based on sovereignty, self-determination and on people's rights;
8. For the construction of an economy centred on people and sustainability;
